Ingredients/Nutrition

What is the difference between Total Carbs and Net Carbs?

"Total Carbs" are the amount of carbs in the food before digestion. “Net carbohydrates” are the carbs that remain and are absorbed by the body after digestion. "Digestibility Corrected/Digestive Facts" refers to a method of calculating the nutritional value of a food by taking into account how much of a nutrient is actually absorbed by the body. Due to our products containing our scientifically proven, all-natural carb and fat inhibitors, we are required to list nutritional details for our foods both before and after digestion.

Why are there two sets of nutritional facts on WiO SmartFoods products?

We have two sets of nutrition facts on all our labels, one for “the Nutritional Facts” regarding the nutritional values contained in the product and one for “Digestive Facts” regarding how much of the nutritional values in the food are actually going to be absorbed by your body after digestion. WiO SmartFoods uses all-natural, plant-based inhibitors that inhibit the digestion of any of the fats and most of the carbs in our foods.

Our inhibitors bind to the carbs and fat, fooling your body into treating them like fibers, which pass through your digestive system undigested and are eliminated through your waste. You can also reference our Behind The Science section found on our navigation bar/header on any page for more in-depth details on our inhibiting process and our Independent Clinical Study backing our science.

Why are some WiO SmartFoods products high in sodium?

Sodium is an essential nutrient that the body needs to function correctly. The slightly higher sodium levels in our foods are designed as part of a low-carb, keto diet. When you follow this type of diet your pancreas will lower insulin production levels and allow your kidneys to expel more water-retention minerals, such as sodium through urination.

Too low levels of sodium can cause nausea, headaches, confusion, fatigue, loss of energy, muscle weakness, spasms, and cramps which can hamper effective digestion and exercise. TIP: If you experience headaches when eating low-carb foods or because you are in ketosis, you can help alleviate headaches by increasing salt and water intake. Medical experts warn to be careful about consuming “too little” sodium when engaged in a keto lifestyle.

Are WiO SmartFoods products vegan-friendly?

WiO SmartFoods offers many vegan/vegetarian-friendly food items. For example, our peanut butter and spreads, breads, chips, muffins, etc. would be considered vegan/vegetarian-friendly. However, due to all of our products being handled and manufactured in a facility that also handles dairy products, we do not make the claim of certified vegan on any of our product(s) labels.

Are WiO SmartFoods products gluten-free?

Our corn chips, peanut butter and spreads, and SmartShakes are gluten-free! We also offer gluten-free flour and healthy sweeteners, so you can make your own healthy gluten-free treats.

Safety and Usage

Can you use our products while pregnant or nursing?

Our products do not present any health risks to healthy pregnant women. Please note: our foods may contain peanuts, dairy, egg, and whey and should be noted if you are allergic. In general, it is recommended that pregnant women consume a higher level of healthy carbs and fats than non-pregnant women. Before starting any diet or making any dietary changes, you should always consult a medical provider for your personal needs. WiO SmartFoods does not claim to offer any medical treatment or give any personal medical advice.

Are there any negative side effects from consuming our fat & carb inhibitors?

WiO SmartFood uses only 100% natural, non-GMO, plant-based alternatives to synthetic chemicals or drugs. Our studies show that our inhibitors (modified cyclodextrin) allow the food to pass through the digestive tract safely. There is no recorded evidence of any negative side effects associated with the use of our foods. The FDA and foreign countries have classified cyclodextrin fibers to be safe for human consumption.

Can WiO SmartFoods inhibiting/blocking ingredients cause allergic reactions?

There is no evidence of any known allergic reactions documented on the ingredients used in our inhibitors.

Why did my blood sugar spike?

The digestion of macronutrients can vary per individual because every individual’s biochemistry is slightly different. Persons with high levels of insulin resistance or glucose intolerance may experience higher sensitivity and greater glucose level volatility. A therapeutic-level keto diet can help to overcome these limitations. Learn more about this here: How to Lower Blood Sugar Spikes Caused by High Insulin Resistance and How Carb Blockers Can Help Diabetics Control Blood Sugar Levels.

It is a good idea to start small. For example, you can start with a 1/4 or 1/2 of a muffin to see how your body reacts to our foods. Then use that information to help you regulate how much of our food you want to eat in a sitting.

Can diabetics or insulin users eat WiO SmartFoods without affecting blood sugar levels?

Theoretically, there should be no effect. However, the digestion of macronutrients can vary per individual. Since everyone does digest food differently, in amount and rate of absorption, we would suggest testing your blood ketones with small amounts of WiO products to determine your particular needs. WiO SmartFoods has thousands of type I and type II diabetic customers consuming our foods.

Can you be one of them with little to no glucose spike? Honestly, it will depend on your level of insulin resistance and/or glucose intolerance. The good news is: that your body will heal these issues if you adopt a low insulin diet. Learn more here: How to Lower Blood Sugar Spikes Caused by High Insulin Resistance and How Carb Blockers Can Help Diabetics Control Blood Sugar Levels.

Will WiO SmartFoods inhibitors block the carbs and fats if I also eat non-WiO foods during the same meal?

No, simply because the ratio of carb and fat inhibitors used is specifically dosed to cover the fat and carbohydrate content of the food recipe that we made. For example; If you were to add more dietary fats to the serving size, there would not be enough of the fat-inhibitor in the WiO food to cover the additional fats ingested. However, taking our WiO Trio Trim Capsules with your non-WiO foods can provide the additional blocking you need. Refer to the product label for details on proper dosage.

Who should use WiO SmartFoods?

Anyone looking to eat healthier to lose weight or maintain a healthy diet. Our products help people looking to improve their fat loss results and reduce cravings with our wide selection of non-traditional diet foods. Also, those wanting to lower glucose, insulin, and triglyceride levels (keto) may find our products beneficial. Lastly, anyone with an addiction to great-tasting foods made with the highest quality ingredients will have found just what they have been looking for!

Shelf Life and Storage

What is the shelf life of our products?

The shelf life of most WiO SmartFoods products is similar (when unopened) to similar product types you would purchase in any grocery store (1-3 weeks depending on the product). Breads, muffins, and croissants will have a shorter shelf life than cookies, flour, and peanut butter/spreads. Because some products have a shorter shelf life measured in days or weeks, and others have a longer shelf life measured in months, the best practice would be to refer to the specific product date codes. If kept in the freezer, the shelf life can be extended to several months.

Does your food need to be refrigerated?

WiO SmartFoods makes both shelf-stable foods and products that require refrigeration. Immediately freeze or refrigerate perishable foods according to the packaging instructions. As with all foods, please store WiO SmartFoods that don’t require refrigeration in a cool, dry place, away from direct heat or sunlight for best results.

Does heating the WiO SmartFoods products change the effectiveness of fat or carb-blocking?

You are fine to heat WiO SmartFoods – heat does not negatively affect either fat or carb inhibitors, however, excessive heating can add a slight aftertaste.

What does “Digestibility Corrected” mean?

The FDA adopted this term in the Code of Federal Regulations in 1993. The term ‘Digestibility Corrected’ means that the macronutrients of carbohydrates and fat are in the food but do not get wholly digested. The fats and most of the carbs pass through the body undigested rendering those calories undigested as well. The term ‘digestibility corrected’ refers to the overall values of macronutrients and calories that are digested by the body after the carbs and fats are blocked.
